Just purchased a near perfect Winchester 69A (early model - no SN) with a Lyman rear peep sight with aperture and front tube sight with provision for interchangeable silouette front sight (again, no SN or model no.); however, some curious sole 'jimmied' the fairly large screw that secures the barrel assembly to the stock and the two screws that mount the Lyman rear sight to the receiver (apparently to disamble the rifle and/or components in an attempt to locate the non-existant SN!!!). This rifle has a deluxe checkered walnut stock - beautiful grain - with shadow line cheekpiece, plastic 'Winchester' butt plate and pistol grip cap. Question: Are the three screws referenced above available somewhere? The assembly retaining screw (on the bottom just ahead of the magazine well) is so badly jimmied that repair would be hopeless and the two Lyman rear sight mounting screws are different (one with slightly rounded head and the other is a flathead - both slotted screws). Thank you, Oly. There is an Illustrated Parts breakdown and parts list on this site. Look to the left column and locate the alphabet.click 'W' when that page comes up.scroll thru the list and click 'Winchester'.when that page comes up.scroll thru that list and click your model designation.that will bring up the parts list and schematic.
From there you can ID the parts you need and order them. As for serial numbers.the Gun Control Act of 1968 made a unique serial number a requirement. Prior to that, less expensive guns didn't have one. The reason was the old standby.COST!
I believe the bottom screw you need is item # 48 Win part#9175 and our hosts stock number is #254620 If you order from our host use the latter number. However there is a note and a separte parts list for parts UNIQUE to the Model 69A shows a Magazine plate screw as Win part # 6969A and our hosts part number of 255010 As for the mounting screws for the Lyman reciever sight(BTW the frt sight name is a 'Globe' frt sight and it should have interchangable inserts) Most screws used for this purpose are a gun special screw in that the thread pitch is tighter than general hardware. The body of the screw is a #6(1/8th') with a thread pitch of 48 threads per inch. You can check the TPI by counting the number of threads in a 1/4' and multiply that by 4.that screw would have a hardware designation expressed as 6-48. However it may be different.but the same technique can be used determine the diameter(use a vernier caliper) and do the thread count thing.next measure the length.

Hardware like this can be purchased from a gunsmith supplyhouse. The one I use is Brownells. They also have Tech Staff that you can consult.either on line or by phone and they will tell you what to order. They may even have the hardware designation at hand. FWIW, From the book titled Old Gunsights and Rifle scopes.the list shows that the Winchester Model 69 used the Lyman No.
57 EW and a list of Win hole spacing shows: 0.0600 used 6-48 screw.0.525 spacing uses 6-48 screws and a spacing of 0.300 uses 5-40 for reciever sights. You should be able to determine length from the hardware you have.
I suggest that you also check the integrity of the holes and threads for any of the screws you need to replace. You can get the taps to chase those threads from Brownells.and.if you would like factory paperwork for your gun, check with ABBY ar Cornell Publications. Thank you for your help. Since my post, I double checked and the Lyman peep sight is indeed their model 57EW. Now to locate the screws (a friend of mine is a master engraver at Browning, Fenton, MO, and helps me out in a pinch; however, though he insists I call him when I need help, I don't like to bother him on the small stuff). The Winchester schematic you referenced confirms you are correct on the 'barrel band screw' and 'barrel band screw bushing' part numbers. Unfortunately, the screw shows 'Sold Out.'
I printed the parts pages and will give Numrich a call next wee to learn if they plan to restock this item. If not, hopefull my friend or a local gunsmith can match it. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction.
I really appreciate the help and look forward to getting my newly acquired 69A back up to like new condition. I also picked up two 62A's and one 61A - all also in like new condition.
